Get Out Of The Dark For Better Health
By Tom Herrin
Many of us seem to live in a world filled with artificial light. Everywhere we go, it seems that we spend a lot of time in man-made environments. It allows us to do a lot of things that we might otherwise be unable to do, but it also may remove us from nature. Natural sunlight can provide an abundance of things that relate to better health. Finding ways to increase the amount of natural light we receive each day can give us energy and a fresh outlook. It can be a great way to start every day.
It Can Help Start The Day
Sunshine has a way of adjusting our internal clock, at least sort of. It can stop the production of melatonin, which is the substance that tells the body it is dark and time to sleep. Most people have had the experience of the sun shining in a window, making them wide awake. It is not just because the light is in the eyes. Sunlight can also put people in a better mood. When people are out in good sunshine, they may feel energized and able to take on more activities.
It Can Make Memory Better
As people age, they often have increased memory problems. Dementia becomes more common. Some of this may be due to the fact that so many older people tend to become shut-ins, therefore they may be exposed to little or no sunshine. High levels of Vitamin D, available from the sun, are known to improve memory. If people will spend a few more minutes in the sunshine each day, they may be able to improve their memories substantially.
Skin And Bones May Be Improved
The old expressions about someone looking like skin and bones usually referred to poor health. In the case of getting more sunshine, it has been known to improve both. For years, many people have sought to improve their skin by being in the sun more. As long as people avoid excessive sun in the most severe part of the day, sunshine can be the simple missing part of an almost miracle cure. If you want to do something inexpensive that can pay off big, don’t be left in the dark. Get out in the sunshine every chance you get. You are sure to feel the difference.
