Breathe Better and Breathe Easy

By Tom Herrin

Breathing is as natural as anything can be, but doing it naturally well is not always easy.  Many of us develop bad breathing habits.  We may even have them from birth.  With the number of people who suffer from respiratory issues today, learning to form good practices in breathing is more critical than ever before.  Lots of individuals have issues that may be related to the environment, whether it is man-made or natural.  In some areas, blooming plants can wreak havoc on those with allergies and respiratory problems.  In some cases, they can be life-threatening.  With our ability to gain more knowledge on the subject, there are now plenty of things we can do to breathe better.

Try Breathing Exercises

We do all kinds of exercises.  Some are to develop our muscles, some are to develop our minds.  Some develop our coordination.  For the most part, a majority of us know very little about breathing exercises.  Those who have trained for some kind of athletic event or some kind of vocal activity may be familiar with breathing exercises.  There are all kinds.  Some focus on the lips, others may involve the nostrils.  Still others may do something while making some kind of noise.  In this day of more studies, we are able to improve our breathing patterns quite a bit.

Good Breathing May Protect Our Health

It may seem like lots of things help build immunity, but some don't.  Correct breathing can deliver more oxygen.  It may help to train our bodies.  If we have a steady and consistent supply of oxygen, we will have healthier tissues.  More efficient breathing also may help with vitamin absorption.  We have a large number of people today with respiratory issues, and training ourselves to breathe better can't hurt.  One thing leads to another, and our bodies respond accordingly.

Good Breathing May Help Us Relax

Many of us have probably had the experience of finding ourselves keyed up and resorted to forcibly slowing down our breathing to try to control it.  This slow deliberate breathing may help to provide us with the kind of exchange that can keep us working at our best.  It is possible that better breathing may carry over to our sleep as well.  With the number of people who have problems with sleeping, learning better habits may be enough to allow us to have better quality rest.  It may not be a perfect solution, but it certainly may help.
