Can Chiropractic Care Help Senior Citizens?

By Randi Morse

I remember thinking, when I was 20 years old, that 40 seemed like a long way away. I remember thinking that when I was 40 I would be in my perfect career with the perfect guy and I'd be perfectly healthy. Now that I am 40 I see how differently my life has gone. A lot of the changes I eventually came to expect, but one of the things that I didn't expect was how much my body would start to break down.

It used to be that I'd get a bruise and it would be gone in just a few days. Now I get a bruise and it sticks around for a week or longer. I used to have no worries of falling down because I knew I was bendy and would be fine. Now I worry that I'll break if I fall down! As we get older, our bodies start to break down. Aches and pains are felt more often as though the body is trying to tell you that it's cranky because it's aging.

Mobility Issues

One big problem that senior citizens face is a loss of mobility. Being unable to walk or do the things that you used to be able to do can be very frustrating. Chiropractic care can help. Utilizing techniques like spinal manipulation and massage can help bring some mobility back to your limbs and back.

Falling Issues

Older adults are much more apt to fall than most young adults. This can be for a variety of reasons including mobility issues and constant pain. Even those seniors who were just clumsy as adults and who continue to be clumsy as senior citizens can be more greatly affected by their falls as they're more likely to be seriously injured by a fall. A chiropractor can help ensure that a senior is walking correctly and has the best posture, which can lessen the chance of falls.

Pain Issues

Seniors who are dealing with severe body pain should always seek out care from their physician, but those who are dealing with constant, chronic pain may have some musculoskeletal issues that can be alleviated with chiropractic care.

The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic are very used to helping senior citizens deal with their health issues. They keep affordable rates to make it easier for a senior on a budget, and their open office hours are very accommodating for seniors who live a busy, or very scheduled, lifestyle.
