Some Foods Never Seem to Change

By Tom Herrin

Fruits are generally recognized as one of those things that should be included in any good diet.  In these busy times of fast foods and ready-to-eat meals from the grocery store, fruits are often neglected.  It can lead to some avoidable issues.  Even though most people know the need for fruits in their diet, they may fail to make a conscious decision to add them to their diets.  One of the easy fruits is pears.  They are usually inexpensive and can make a solid contribution to building or protecting health.  Including them in the diet on a daily basis can be easy and productive.  They may be especially popular with kids.

They May Help with Weight Management

Who doesn't struggle with managing weight?  There are few of us who don't have any problems with it, but many do, especially as they age.  It is common for the metabolism to slow as people get older.  An average pear has only around 100 calories, making it ideal for those who are trying to minimize calorie intake.  With their high water content and fiber, this makes them a really good snack.  Having a pear as a dessert or between meal snack can support efforts to lose weight.

They May Help Prevent Birth Defects

For many years, one of the best ways to assure better prenatal health is to take good steps.  Prenatal vitamins are a good way to be certain that people get enough folic acid.  Pears are considered to be a folate-rich food.  Consuming them on a regular basis can be an easy way to to prevent birth defects.

They Can Be Good to Eat

Most of us have eaten pears at one time or another.  As children, it is a pretty popular baby food to be served early.  We always ate them as kids.  They are popular in fruit salads.  They are good served in any jelled desserts.  We have them in cobblers or baked with some simple topping.  We also like them as a fruit that is easy to eat and take with you.  They are really soft and great for those of us who may be be ready for something a little easier on the teeth and gums.  If you want to try something simple to add to your diet, try pears.
