Get More Energy With Leafy Greens

By Tom Herrin

The general purpose of food should be to power the body.  Some people likely feel it is to satisfy hunger.  The two can actually be pretty far apart, at times.  Most people are probably trained to eat meals to stop that hunger.  Internal schedules tend to be established by people as to what time of day they eat, how much they consume, and what types of foods they eat.  When they take a more scientific approach, they eat to meet the needs of their bodies.  This is done by doing an analysis of what makes it work best and how much is required to do so.  For those who may look at food as fuel, adding leafy greens to their diet may optimize their efforts.

They May Help With Digestion

Without some good planning, many people experience digestive issues.  Failing to give thought to what is eaten and how it affects the body may result in consistent problems.  When they add leafy greens to a diet, they may be adding nutrients that can help to make the digestive system work more efficiently.  They may also be able to restore some of the energy that can be lost through having some of these problems with the digestive system.

They May Help Prevent Iron Deficiency

Whether it is due to age or some other problem, many people have iron deficiencies.  These can result in anemia which may be somewhat serious for some.  Eating leafy greens may be able to help.  Many of them contain iron -- or at least help in iron absorption.  It has been said that eating three to six servings per week of spinach may be successful in maintaining proper levels of iron in the body.  It may be a matter of managing through careful planning.

They May Provide More Energy and a Good, Light Meal

I particularly enjoy eating leafy greens in a salad.  It makes a really good meal that allows me to get out and work.  I never feel heavy or loaded down after eating such a meal.  These greens can be a great source of vitamins and minerals.  Many of us were frequently told to eat our greens when we were young.  Now that there has been more research, there may be even more reason to do so.  If we introduce them to our children early, they may form some good eating habits that can carry on throughout their lives.
