Let Circumstances Guide Change

By Tom Herrin

There are times in which people feel they are in control of their lives to the very last detail.  More recently, many people likely feel they have almost no control over what happens, and it can be frustrating and worrisome.  That feeling that control is slipping away can leave people at a total loss and depressed.  Why not assume control of what they can?  With what may seem like additional time to spare for many who have been kept from doing as they are accustomed, stepping up and taking control of their situation may provide a feeling of greater confidence and better overall health at the same time.

Don't Let Opportunities Slip Away

Before people get to the point of near total return to their former freedoms, it could be a great time to form some good practices within the family.  If they haven't done so, taking the opportunity to communicate more within the family can help to tighten those ties.  Open discussion may be at its best while doing some activity that is non-threatening.  Playing some good board games or card games should be a way everyone can do something and talk at the same time.  Doing some kind of craft, building something, or baking a treat together may be other ways of getting this done.

A Workout Can Benefit All

The family who sweats together may be in better shape.  This can translate into better overall health as physical condition can play an important part in staying as healthy as possible.  It may help the body to operate more efficiently and avoid some injuries.  For certain, the heart and lungs will function better.  Those who are still relying on good luck and a supply of pills are fooling themselves.  It takes a little more effort, and that effort will become more fun if they are all participating together.

Have Fun Even in Dark Times

I think we all have a responsibility to keep up with the events of the world today.  It may help us to empathize with the suffering of so many who are having such a difficult time with the current pandemic.  We may consider ourselves fortunate if we have not been directly affected, but others have.  With that said, there is nothing wrong with enjoying some family time.  It is time we may not have again in this same way.  Make the most of it now.  It will be memorable both good and bad.
