How to Get Your Confidence Up for Exercise
By Genevieve Cunningham
Working out is definitely important. Most people are well aware of the benefits of hitting the gym. So why don’t we do it? For some, it’s a lack of time or motivation. For others, it’s simply a lack of desire. And still for others, it’s more of a lack of confidence. No one likes to go to the gym when they don’t know what to do. If you’re ready to stop making excuses and get your health moving in the right direction, take a look at these ways to boost your confidence so that you can engage in regular exercise.
Ask a Trainer
If you really don’t know what to do or how to do it, just ask a professional. Most gyms have experts, trainers, or both that you can use to help you get started. This will give you a base from which to work, and it can absolutely help you build your knowledge base and confidence level. Don’t be afraid to reach out. Getting help just means that you’re taking your health seriously, which is one step closer to your dream body.
Practice at Home
Once you’ve learned the basics -- whether from a professional, a friend, or on the internet -- practice on your own. Use a mirror to watch your form and check for mistakes. Practice makes perfect, and this is definitely the same when it comes to exercise. Even a few reps of particular exercises at home on your own is enough to make you feel strong and capable enough to perform them anytime,
Get a Friend
Peers are a great resource for multiple things in life. They help lift us up, give us advice, and offer companionship. And when it comes to working out, they can offer support, help, and comfort. Working out with a friend makes you less self-conscious. You’ll be a team, and everything is easier when you have a teammate. Find a friend who you really trust and who will stick with you, and you’ll feel so much better about working out and getting fit.
If you’re not confident about working out or about some part of your exercise routine, do what it takes to feel better about yourself. You may be surprised at how much of an impact just a little confidence makes in your overall routine and your long-term results. Use theses steps -- or whatever steps it takes -- to feel confident about your routine, and better mental and physical health are sure to follow.
