Why You Need a Break from the Norm
By Genevieve Cunningham
Most people like a bit of routine. We like to know what time we're waking up and what time we're going to work. We like to know what time we're getting off and what we have to do afterward. But let's face it. Sometimes life can get a little mundane. We do the same things over and over, and this can make us feel a bit anxious. The truth is that, though normal life is generally good to us, it's also healthy to have a little break now and again. If you're feeling a bit strangled by the same old routine, take a look at these reasons why you should consider taking a break.
To Reset Your Mind
Sometimes your mind just needs a reset. It needs a moment to think -- or not think -- about life and work and everything that’s happening. Taking a break from the norm, whether it’s a vacation or a simple day off, can really give your mind a chance to rest and recuperate. In the long run, this can help lower stress and improve cognitive function to leave you happier and more productive than ever.
To Boost Motivation
Sometimes it’s hard to keep our motivation up and running. We can only take so much of the same old thing. But changing it up -- especially in something like your workout -- might help you find your motivation once again. This can be incredibly beneficial when you feel the motivation start to wane. The next time you’re feeling a bit unmotivated, give this a try and see if it recharges your batteries and gets you moving in the right direction.
To Rest
We all need rest. And to be perfectly honest, we all need much more than we’re getting. Taking a break from the norm can give your body and mind the rest that it needs. Take a day off and catch up on sleep. Go for a day trip and let your mind wander. The more rest you can get, the better you’ll feel when you return to the everyday tasks when your break is over.
Taking a break from the norm can really boost your physical and mental well-being. It gives you a chance to relax and reset your mind and body. Don’t be afraid to take the days that you have and put them to good use. With a small break, you may find that your health, life, and overall perception take a turn in a positive direction from here on out.
