Getting Rid of Cellulite: Is It Possible?

By Genevieve Cunningham

Cellulite. Almost everyone has been traumatized by this word at one point or another. Whether you were made fun of for its appearance, or you simply dread wearing a swimsuit because of it, cellulite can be incredibly frustrating. But is it as bad a we think? Or is cellulite actually normal? Is it something to get rid of or something to embrace? The answer: It's complicated! If you have cellulite that you're less than happy about, take a look at what you need to know about its presence in your life.

Lose Overall Body Fat

Cellulite is just fat. When fat cells bulge, it can create that dimpled look of cellulite. If you want to lose cellulite, you have to lose body fat. This is done through a healthy diet, a regular exercise program, and lots of time. Choose a plan that you think you can stick with, and then get moving! The more fat you lose, the less cellulite you'll notice, and the better you'll feel about your body and health.

Build Muscle

Building muscle helps create a solid, firm look in your body. The more muscle you have, the easier it is to burn fat as well. So how do you build muscle? With weights and resistance. Lifting weights -- heavy weights -- is the fastest way to really build muscle and create density. But if you don't have access to heavy weights, you can use dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, or even your own body weight. Be patient with the process and you'll have more success in sculpting a body you are proud of.

Understand Cellulite

Cellulite isn't a sign that you're unhealthy or overweight. Healthy people of a normal weight definitely have cellulite. So much plays into its presence in the body. Genetics, personal history, and where you carry most of your body fat are huge factors in how visible cellulite is on your body. Everyone has it. Don't be afraid of it. Get healthy and fit, and don't worry about the idea of being perfect.

Cellulite is completely normal. If you're unhappy with it, you can take steps to reduce its appearance. But keep in mind that there's nothing wrong with your body just because of cellulite. Embrace your body and work toward better health, and you'll be well on your way to a happier and healthier life overall.
