4 Ways to Get More Water in Your Diet
By Genevieve Cunningham
Water is an essential part of any diet. Without water, we can't live -- literally. Unfortunately, most of us don't get even close to enough water in our diets. We'd rather have coffee and soda -- and basically anything with flavor. But maybe it's time we make an effort to change our aversion to water. If you want better health, take a look at these four simple ways to get more water in your diet starting today.
Drink a Glass With Breakfast
Most of us don't have water at breakfast time, but this is a great way to get an extra glass. After your morning coffee or tea or whatever you enjoy, fill up with a glass of fresh water. It might not be appealing first thing in the morning, but it will help clear your mind, move digestion, and will help you feel more awake. Even if you forget to drink water for the rest of the day, you've started your day off on the right foot.
Carry a Water Bottle
Sometimes it's easier to remember to drink water if we carry it around with us. Get a refillable water bottle or a cup, and keep it within reach. Every time you see it, grab a sip. You might be surprised at how quickly those sips add up to keep your body well hydrated and healthier.
Eat More Water-Based Foods
It's entirely possible to get some of your water consumption through your food. Stock up on items such as celery, cucumber, berries, watermelon, and other water-based foods. When your snack is 90 percent water, you're doing a great job on your diet! Give this a try if you really struggle to drink enough water, but are good about the food that goes into your mouth.
Consider Flavored Water and Tea
It's OK if you need some flavor. Add some flavored drops or powder into your water. Or you could also drink an herbal tea of your choice. These still count as water -- except they're a little easier on the palate for many. Try to sneak in some regular H2O, but do what it takes to get that water in your body for overall better health.
Water is one of the most important parts of your diet. You need it to function well and to lose weight and to feel good in your skin! Use these tips to get more water into your daily life, and you'll have better health before you know it.
