Get Outside the Box (or the House) for Better Health

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of things people can improve on today.  One of them is always finances.  Another is usually time management.  Still another always health.  There are those who need it bad and those who always believe they need it bad.  Either one is important.  The difference is that some people are always looking to improve and find new ways to improve their health.  The others never really want to take that extra step to move to actually get into gear and work to be better.  For either one of those, camping can be a different experience that can be fun and healthy at the same time.  It has lots of benefits.

It May Help Reduce Stress

Whether people want to admit it or not, they all deal with some kind of stress.  It is important that they recognize it and do something to relieve it or minimize it.  Camping is a natural for relieving stress.  A University of Minnesota study revealed that the simple act of viewing nature could help to reduce stress and increase those feelings that everything's good.  Most people can use those feelings at some time or another.  Camping can help people to relax and unwind, and it doesn't take that long to do it.

It May Help Improve Memory

Some things do not seem that readily explainable, but it seems that spending time in nature can help the memory.  In a study by the University of Colorado, it took groups of students for a walk on two different routes.  One was mostly city scenery while the other was mostly natural scenery.  Those who viewed the natural scenery showed a 20 percent improvement in their short-term memory.  While the temperature seemed to make no difference, the outdoors did.  It has been compared to the effects of meditating.

It May Increase the Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a critical vitamin.  Much of it is provided by the sun.  it is believed to help fight some cancers as well as high blood pressure and heart disease among other things.  Getting out and camping can be a great way for any of us to connect with nature and one another.  Our family enjoys it and goes as often as possible.  It is inexpensive and simple.  Try it and see what it does for you.  With a little planning, it is hard to go wrong.  You may be surprised at how it lifts your spirit.
