Let the New Normal Work for You
By Tom Herrin
For those who wonder what made the world turn upside down, they may feel that they are living in a state of total confusion. Without a doubt, the notion of staying home more and going less is a different kind of mindset for most. Not only have many people lost jobs and began to live in some kind of fear, they have had to make adjustments in the way they live. With little other choice, they may as well make the best of it. Even as the communities begin to open back up, many people will find themselves retreating to their homes far more than they have in quite a few years. These tough times may be the best of times if they will take advantage of it.
Do More Talking
Many people seem to have forgotten the art of communicating with others, especially their families. This can be a great time to do more talking and listening. It takes both to communicate effectively. One good way to do this is to find some mild recreation they can do. This could be playing a game, working a puzzle, doing a craft, or spending some time working on a joint project. Any of these things can be an opportunity to share ideas and feelings which may open the door to better relationships.
Work Out as a Group
When people are spending lots of time restricted from going wherever they want, they may not be really motivated to exercise. It can actually be prime time to do so. Getting everyone under the same roof to join in an attempt to exercise together may yield some positive results. When everyone joins in, there is a better chance of each individual taking more ownership. If they will take the risk of being more creative with their exercise and activity, they may find it more fun as well.
Interact Freely
Not all of us need structured plans regarding doing things together. They may be spontaneous and still accomplish their purpose. We enjoy sitting around the dining table as a family and just talking. Whether it is about the activities of the day or reminiscing about something that happened in the past, we enjoy sharing with one another. If you haven't had the opportunity to do this. It is worth a try. Staying in may not last much longer, but the positive things we begin may become good things for life.
