5 Ways to Help You Stay Healthy

By Sara Butler

Chiropractic care is more than just a way to care for your spine; it’s an approach to your overall health and wellness. Chiropractors may adjust your spine, but they also have some great information to help your stay healthy beyond the alignment of your spine. Here are a few!

Check Your Posture

Good posture is important beyond preventing back and neck pain, it’s also essential for a healthy outlook! Slouching can cause damage to your joints, which is why it’s important to break out of old habits that have you slouching over your desk every day. Be aware of how you’re holding your body throughout the day and endeavor to correct it if you find yourself slouching. You may be surprised at how much better it will make you feel physically and mentally!

Exercise the Right Way

Some people get so excited about starting a new exercise regimen that they begin to focus on the wrong thing. It’s not about what you’re doing to exercise as much as it’s about how you’re going about it. It’s quite common for people to injure themselves by creating poor exercise habits and overdoing it in the beginning. This makes it too easy to do damage to your spine as well as other joints. If you’re unsure how to get started in a new exercise routine, discuss it with your chiropractor and consult a personal trainer at your gym.

Stretch

You need to develop good stretching habits and take the time to stretch every day. Of course, you know the value of stretching before a strenuous activity, but you can also benefit from regular stretching to help battle stiffness and poor posture.

Eat Right

Exercising and stretching are important, and so is how you’re fueling your body. You need a diet that is full of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains and lean proteins. When your body is fueled well, then you will have the energy you need to complete daily tasks and care for yourself.

Sleep

You may think the key to good health is what you do during the day, but what you do at night is just as important. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you have poor sleep posture, or you’re sleeping on a mattress that isn’t supportive enough, you’re going to be doing damage to your spine and other joints that will leave you feeling less than stellar. Talk to your chiropractor about the right way to sleep and for how long!
