Is Sleep a Priority in Your Life?

Nearly every person has woken up exhausted in the morning at one time or another. You can spend all day thinking about going to bed that night but still find it difficult to go to bed at a reasonable time. Life is busy and your to-do list probably only grows longer each day. Sometimes, sleep can get put to the bottom of the list. If this sounds familiar, then you need to make sleep a priority in your life. Here’s how!

Are You Eating Before Bed?

Eating before bed is simply not a good idea. It’s bad for your metabolism, sure. But it’s also bad for your sleep quality! If sleep is difficult to come by, then you can certainly have a cup of sleepy time tea to help you relax. If that doesn’t do the trick, warm milk or small snacks such as a banana aren’t a terrible idea either. Just avoid heavy meals since they won’t help you to feel good as you’re trying to drift off to sleep.

Create a Bedtime Routine

If you have kids, then they probably have a bedtime routine that you stick to like clockwork. Well, that’s probably not a bad idea for you either. What you do leading up to sleep can impact how well you sleep. It’s important to keep off electronic devices in the hour before bed since the light from the screen can interrupt your brain’s natural sleep hormones. Let your brain wind down as you do and you may find sleep easier to come by.

Keep it Cool

Your bedroom should be an environment conducive to sleep. That means it should be cool and dark. Experts think that 68 degrees Fahrenheit is the perfect temperature to help your body go to sleep and stay that way. Darkness also helps you to stay asleep once you find it since you won’t be roused by light in the room.
