The avocado toast trend continues to dominate Instagram and other social media networks. Chefs are changing the basic recipe with new ideas. Foodies are competing to take the best photos of their creations. Should you try the avocado toast trend or ignore it?

What Is Avocado Toast?

If you have been lucky to avoid Instagram or other websites that seem to be flooded with images of avocado toast, then the trend may be confusing. The basic recipe is simple and only has a few ingredients, but there are multiple variations. It seems that everyone is trying to make a better version of the toast that is unique.

You need a fresh avocado, bread and salt to make it. After toasting the bread, set it aside. Cut open the avocado and remove the flesh. Cover the toasted bread with a thick layer of avocado. Add salt to taste or skip this step if you are limiting sodium.

Avocado is considered a good source of healthy fats. It also has dietary fiber, copper, Vitamin E, folate and potassium. Avocados can help you feel full, so they are a good option for breakfast. In general, the combination of whole-grain bread and avocado is healthy and nutritious.  

A medium avocado has an estimated 300 calories. About 80 percent of the fats are monounsaturated and may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. They may also help lower bad cholesterol levels. Some studies show that avocados can help people control blood sugar levels.

If you are not allergic to avocados and enjoy eating them, then consider trying this trend. Avocado toast is easy to make and can be a healthy option for breakfast or lunch. Most people like the combination of crunchy bread with creamy avocados.

It is also easy to personalize the recipe and make it different. Consider adding black pepper or red pepper flakes to the avocado for a spicier meal. Try garlic powder, olive oil or onions as seasoning. Another popular option is to combine avocado toast with eggs. Some people prefer to add fish or bacon on top of the toast and avocado.

Some foodies are taking avocado toast to extreme levels. They are carving designs into the avocado smears on top of the toast. They are experimenting with new flavor combinations and different types of cheese. Consider joining the avocado toast trend and taking pictures of your own creations.
