Planning a Fitness Date With Your Loved One

By Brandi Swieter

Planning a date can be a fun obstacle for some people, while others may struggle to decide what to do. Rather than choosing a simple dinner and a movie, the date planner can choose the fitness route to ensure a fun evening that has the couple burning up a sweat. It’s just a matter of planning out the event and ensuring all things included are healthy and fitness-friendly choices.

Still Start With Dinner

It’s tough to work out with little food in the belly to provide energy. While people don’t want to go to a fancy restaurant and overdo it on a large meal, they should still eat. Making a healthy dinner at home is a great way to ensure both parties have the energy needed to keep up with the fitness adventure. The meal should include protein and plenty of veggies.

Tell Them to Dress Down

If the date planner wants to make the event a surprise, yet still needs the other person to know what to wear, they can simply tell them to dress down. Let them know they’ll need casual clothes and tennis shoes for the date night, so don’t overdress. They’ll realize the night won’t involve an extravagant location, but still will be unsure as to what is actually happening without more specifics.

Start Out Slow

A biking trip through the mountains may be a little too fitness forward for some. If one or both of the couple isn’t usually into fitness, then a full-out fitness date might be a little too much. It’s best to start out slow, perhaps with something that seems more fun while still getting exercise time in. Paintball or laser tag is one option. Even just a bike ride or walk through the park could be a great way to experience fitness while still having the ability to talk.

Bring Water

Exercise takes a lot of effort, even if it’s just walking. The body loses water through sweat, and it’s easy to get dehydrated. Be sure to bring water along on the date so you and your partner have something to keep the thirst quenched and the body refueled during and after the activity.

A fitness date can be a great way to bond. Try it out once and see how your partner responds. It may provide a nice opportunity to see how the two of you connect doing more than just sitting around watching a movie and eating dinner. It gives more to talk about and a great memory that can last forever.
