Work Multiple Jobs? Chiropractic May Help
By Paul Rothbart
The days of a single breadwinner supporting the entire family are largely gone. Making a living with each adult in the household working one job has also become quite difficult. As a result, many people, single or married, with or without children work two jobs. There are even some who work more. Naturally, working longer hours takes a serious toll on both mental and physical health. The obvious way to fix this is to quit the extra jobs. Unfortunately, finances don't allow this solution. Extra measures must be taken to care for oneself. Regular chiropractic care can be an effective part of this extra care.
Physical Problems of Working Extra Jobs
Working longer hours generally means less sleep. This will always diminish health. Even getting eight hours a night may not be enough to replenish a body that is working 12 or more hours daily. Risk of injury increases when muscles and connective tissue cannot fully regenerate. A study of British civil servants found that work stress greatly increases the risk of stroke, heart disease, and diabetes in people with metabolic syndrome. The Harvard Medical School published a study with startling results. People who work more than 55 hours per week have a 33 percent greater risk of stroke and a 13 percent greater risk of heart attack than people who work 35-40 hour weeks.
Mental Problems of Working Extra Jobs
Less sleep and more work is also going to have a negative impact on mental health. Burnout is all too common. Concentration can waver, which will diminish job performance and can increase risk of injury. Overwork is a leading cause of anxiety and depression. These mental health issues are quite serious and harm every aspect of life. A lesser quality of life results and that adds to the anxiety and depression. It's a downward cycle that if unchecked, will not end well.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help
Eating well, getting proper exercise, and making sure any sleep is of the best quality are all vital to maintaining one's health while working more than one job. Seeing a chiropractor regularly can also be of great help. Chiropractic care will make sure any spine or joint issues are found and corrected. This will reduce risk of injuries and help the body stay healthy. Some people experience better sleep as a result of chiropractic care. This alone can have a huge positive impact. There are also chiropractic clients who find that their anxiety is reduced and they manage stress better.
