How Do You Know if Your Baby Needs a Chiropractor?
By Sara Butler
Every baby needs a chiropractor! But if you’re on the fence about taking the newest addition to your family in for a consultation, there are some signs that may help you to make up your mind. Here are a just a few of the indications that your baby would benefit from seeing a chiropractor.
If your baby struggles with latching on during feeding, you're definitely not alone. Many babies have difficulty with this task, but the problem may not have anything to do with their mouth. Chiropractors have found in many instances the problem originates from the baby’s neck, more specifically the top bone called the “atlas.”
The atlas is responsible for moving the head from side to side, and if there is a misalignment it can cause issues with the jaw, which then make it more difficult for a baby to latch on for feeding.
In a perfect world, babies would come out of the womb, recognize their parent’s need for sleep and just start sleeping all night long. Unfortunately, you don’t live in a perfect world. In this world, babies are up several times during the night as they adjust to life outside of the womb and need food in order to grow.
However, discomfort may be one of the things waking your baby from slumber. If you find that your baby is fed and changed but still has issues settling down and going to sleep then it may be a misalignment that is the underlying problem. A misalignment your chiropractor can find and fix!
Spitting Up – A Lot
One of the badges you earn as a parent is getting spit up on – sometimes repeatedly! But if your baby is spitting up excessively then it may be an issue with their spine.
Misalignments in your baby’s spine in the area that attaches to the diaphragm can cause restrictions that don't allow food to travel its normal path. This results in a lot of spitting up. It may also be an indicator of a food allergy, but either way, it’s an issue your chiropractor can help you identify.
The most dreaded of all baby conditions, colic can be very tough to work through. Many experts will say it’s something a baby merely must grow out of, but you should know there is help. Regular chiropractic care for your baby may be able to help with colic and calm down their fussiness.
Having a new baby can be difficult, but you can rely on your chiropractor to help get you through no matter the issue! If you have concerns about your baby, bring them into the chiropractor at The Joint today!
