How to Spring Clean Your Health
By Sara Butler
Spring is about renewal -- and for a lot of people, it's about whipping their home into shape. If you're one of them, then good for you! It's great for your health to deep clean your home. But if you're looking to get healthy, spring cleaning isn't the only thing that should be on your to-do list. In fact, there are several ways you can easily spring clean your overall health in the months ahead.
Shop Local Produce
Chances are you have a local farmers market or co-op that offers local and organically grown fruits and vegetables for your consumption. This is a great idea because it supports both your health and local businesses. Buying fruits and vegetables this way also allows you to eat with the season, which makes foods that are at their nutritional peak the stars of your diet.
Get Some Sun
Of course, you should wear sunscreen when you're going to be outside, but don't avoid getting some sunshine on your skin. Not getting out in the sunshine can deplete your body's stores of Vitamin D, which helps to support a healthy immune system, healthy bones, and hormone balances. Getting as little as 10 minutes of sunshine each day can make a huge difference.
Clean Out Your Makeup Drawer
This may seem like a strange thing to do, but for anyone who likes to wear makeup, it's a must. There are many types of makeup that don't have a very long shelf life, such as eyeliner and mascara. In fact, you should be replacing these products at least every six months. Get rid of any makeup that looks or smells funny and wash your makeup brushes. Remember, your skin is your body's largest organ so you need to take care of it just as you would any other part of yourself.
Spring is also the perfect time to get out your calendar and make those wellness appointments you need to. At The Joint Chiropractic, there's no need to make appointments to see the chiropractor (just walk right in!) but for every other healthcare provider you see, check to see if it's time for a checkup for you or anyone else in your family for the rest of the year.
Spring ahead this season to take on life from a new perspective. Your health and wellness will benefit!
