Want to Splurge? Here's How!

By Genevieve Cunningham

Sticking to a strict diet day in and day out is incredibly tough. Sometimes you just need a little change or something new to spice it up. Sometimes you just need that piece of cake. But of course, we all know that a healthy diet is one of the most important aspects of a healthy lifestyle. So, can you have your cake and eat it too? Isn’t there any way to splurge without losing your healthy diet completely? For all of those needing a few indulgences in their life, check out these splurge-worthy treats that won’t break the calorie bank.

Fruit Salad

Fruit can be both good and bad for you. It’s an obvious better choice than sweets, but it still contains calories and sometimes high amounts of sugar. But, when it comes to splurging, fruit is an excellent choice. Cut up your favorite fruits, throw them in a bowl, and eat to your heart’s content. No, you can’t do this every day, but on occasion this is a delicious “cheat” meal worth diving into.

Frozen Yogurt or Sherbet

For some people (me!) ice cream is a serious weakness. It’s just. So. Good. But ice cream is high in calories, sugar, and fat. What’s an ice cream lover to do? Just go for the lower calorie, lower fat options. Instead of buying the real stuff, buy either frozen yogurt or sherbet. These will still give you a kick of sugar and sweet flavor, but they have far fewer calories. They are excellent go-to options for all of the cold dessert fans.

Turkey Bacon

This is for a different taste bud. While the other two splurges can help with a sweet tooth, this splurge helps with that fatty meat craving that so many get. Instead of going for real bacon, which is high in fat, grease, and calories, buy some turkey bacon. Yes, the flavor and texture are slightly different. Yes, it might take a little bit of getting used to. But, if you make the switch and stay patient, you’ll develop a taste for it so that you can eat bacon without the guilt.

If you need to indulge, it’s not the end of the world. Splurging on something delicious really is OK every now and again. But, if you do it in a healthy way, such as the ways listed above, then you can splurge more often and keep your diet on track all at the same time.
