Why You Should Change Your Workout for Fall

By Genevieve Cunningham

Summer is winding down. The stores are full of back-to-school clothes and supplies. The heat, though ever present, has an end in sight. We’re beginning to feel ready for the fall. This time of year is exciting! It’s a great time to set new goals and try new things. And it’s also a great time to make changes. Specifically, it’s a great time to change up your workout. Why? If you’re interested in keeping your routine evolving, take a look at these great reasons why the change of the season is the best time to change your workout too.

For a Change of Pace

Many times, we get in a workout slump. We may continue to work out every day. We may not miss a day at the gym. But we’re stuck doing the same old things over and over again. Changing up your workout can help you change up the pace a bit. Instead of the same lifting routine, switch to kettlebells. Instead of running the same two miles every other day, try sprints or long walks. A change of pace keeps us interested and engaged, which are two very important aspects of making the most of your workout.

To Flow With the Weather

Summer in the south is hot. Really hot. When the fall comes rolling in, the winds cool down and the nights get crisp. The change in the weather makes it a great time to adjust your exercise. If you’ve been working out indoors to beat the heat, take it outdoors. Try hiking a nature trail, or find a running path outside. Adjusting your workout to the weather makes it feel right … like that’s exactly what you’re supposed to be doing with your time. And if the workout feels right, you’re more likely to put in the effort and get bigger results.

For New Motivation

If you want to stay motivated, changing it up is key. When we do the same old routine over and over, we get bored! And when we’re bored, we stop putting out effort, and eventually stop exercising altogether. To ward off this potential boredom, change the workout with the season, and keep your motivation up and running.

The fall is a time of year that many love and look forward to. It’s fun, busy, and leads us into the holidays. And it’s a great time to change your habits, try new things, and make yourself and your life better. Change up your workout with the changing season, and watch your body and mind bloom.
