A Guide to Boosting the Immune System This Spring
By Genevieve Cunningham
Considering the incredibly important job of the immune system, we often don't give it the attention it needs or deserves. The immune system is your body's natural defense system. It fights off germs when they attempt to invade. It kills viruses, fights off infection, and keeps you well overall. Even though this system does pretty well all on its own, it doesn't hurt to give it a boost when you can. And with the spring season just around the corner, now is as good a time as any! If you want to feel your best and keep illness away this spring, take a look at this guide for boosting the immune system starting now.
Focus on Diet
The spring -- or really any change of season -- is a great time to focus on changing your diet. With the warm weather, eating lighter and consuming more fruits and vegetables is just easier. We aren't craving the warmth and heavy foods of winter. And a healthy diet is especially important in strengthening the immune system. If we get enough fiber, Vitamin C, and water in our normal diets, we'll be moving our immune systems and whole bodies toward better health.
Get Some Fresh Air
Fresh air is good for the body and overall health. It allows us to fill our bodies with oxygen and helps us feel awake and alive. And of course, fresh air is good for mental health as well. When it comes to the immune system, fresh air boosts overall function and also helps cinch that mind-body connection. If you're looking to fight illness and keep your mood up (which definitely work hand in hand!), then getting fresh air should be part of your daily routine.
Focus on Preventative Care
Don't wait until you're sick before getting care. If you really want to stay well, then prevention is key. Go get a checkup. Go to the gym regularly. See your chiropractor. Ask for advice from a healthcare professional. Making a preventative healthcare plan is a great way to stop illness before it causes problems in your everyday life. Starting now, make prevention a thing, and you'll be more likely to be healthy through the spring.
A strong immune system is important. It's how you stay well and feel good. And with the warm weather and increased activity of spring, you're definitely going to want to feel good! Use these tips to boost your immune system, and feel good through the spring and all year long.
