3 Healthy Ways to Enjoy the Last Days of Summer
By Genevieve Cunningham
We still have over a month of summer left. While that seems like plenty of time -- especially when you're dealing with wild children and crazy schedules -- that time will fly by in no time at all. Before long, we'll be stocking up on school supplies and getting back to the grind. But before we start thinking about the busyness of fall, we should probably be thinking about how to enjoy those last fleeting days of summer. If you would like to savor the last carefree days, take a look at these healthy ways to enjoy your time and your family before school takes over everyone's lives.
Take a Quick Trip
Even if you can't take a full on vacation, take a weekend or a few days to get away. When we get away from home, we're more likely to actually spend time together. We're more likely to talk to each other, and it gives us the chance to make new shared experiences and memories. If we make time for this in the summer, it's somehow easier to transition into fall. Choose a location, pack some bags and food, gather your loved ones, and squeeze in a trip before summer ends.
Soak Up the Sun
The sun is dangerous and also good for us. It's a paradox. But with the number of sunny days on a slow and steady decline, we should take advantage of the light. Put on sunscreen and get outdoors. This allows you to get some sun on your skin but also protect it at the same time. Getting some sun helps your body soak in Vitamin D, improves your mood, and gives your skin a sun-kissed glow. Don't stay out too long or you'll negate the benefits and bring harm, but a few minutes every day will do your body some good.
Spend Time With Loved Ones
School takes up so much time. So much. Before everyone is going their separate ways, make sure you get in some time with those you love. This could be your family. It could be your friends. It could be visiting relatives that will soon be traveling home. Spend some time with them while you can. This helps recharge your batteries and fills you with satisfaction before school begins, which makes the process of school and activities and bus schedules so much easier.
Sure, we still have a little summer left. But we all know how quickly it will go by! Use this time to soak in all the summer fun that you can. Use these tips to savor your time, and you can enter the new season ahead with confidence and better health.
