3 Ways to Make Breakfast Healthier
By Genevieve Cunningham
Breakfast is an important meal. If you choose to eat it, you want it to be healthy. You don't want it to be full of sugar and calories -- no donuts or sweet pastries or pre-sweetened cereal. Unfortunately, breakfast is hard for some people. They don't wake up in the best mood, and so worrying about a healthy diet in the morning is the last thing from their minds. But what if it was easy? If you need to make your breakfast a little healthier, take a look at these easy ways to make it happen.
Add Veggies
Vegetables are one of the easiest and most effective ways to improve our diet. We don't often think about adding vegetables to our breakfast, but it's very easy to do. If you're having eggs or toast or yogurt or oatmeal, just slice some cucumber and tomato to go with it. Whatever you currently have for breakfast, raw veggies will work as an excellent side. Over time, you can change the rest of your breakfast as well, and you'll have a totally healthy breakfast to start your day.
Drink Water
We don't usually drink water first thing in the morning. We're much more likely to drink coffee or tea or Diet Coke. But drinking water can actually be very beneficial. It helps us get hydrated first thing and also boosts digestion and metabolism. Have your coffee, and then follow it up with a glass of water. It won't feel quite right at first, mostly because you're not used to it. But as your body and taste buds adjust to morning water, you may actually find that you enjoy it -- and that you certainly enjoy the boost to the way your body feels.
Cut Sugar
This might be the hardest tip for many people. It seems as though everything comes with sugar already in it. Cereal, yogurt, granola -- these seemingly healthy foods are full of sugar. If you can, leave these foods out of your breakfast menu. If you can't, then make sure you're leaving out all of the extra sugar. Don't put too much in your coffee. Don't add it to your cereal. The less sugar you have in your breakfast, the healthier it's going to be, and the better you're going to feel at the start of your day.
A healthy breakfast is a great way to start your day off on the right foot. It helps prepare your body and mind for the day ahead boosts physical health, and can even help with focus and productivity. Use these tips to improve your breakfast, and you may be able to improve your whole life along with it.
