What to Expect For Your First Chiropractic Visit

By Stephen R. Farris

It's been a long day at work, but the pain you felt off and on earlier has now become more of a nuisance and the hurting has gotten worse.

A friend of yours recommends that you go visit a local chiropractor, but you're unsure what to expect so you decide to go to the drugstore instead and pick up the strongest over-the-counter pain relief pills they have.

At first, the pills seem to be doing the work. The pain subsides a little less and you might sleep a little better during the night. However, it provides only a temporary fix as the back pain returns the next day.

You decide to take your friend's advice and head to the chiropractor. So here's what you can expect upon that first visit, especially at The Joint Chiropractic.

Initial Consultation and Exam

When you arrive, just check in at the desk and they'll get you in to see the first available licensed professional chiropractor. Once you begin your visit, he/she will ask you a few questions about what type of pain you're experiencing and where. An exam will be performed, followed by an adjustment.

What's That Popping Noise I Hear?

When your chiropractor makes the adjustment on you, you may hear some cracking or popping noise. That's normal as it's only the small pockets of gas being released from your joints. You'll probably experience some immediate relief after the first adjustment.

Is All of This Safe?

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, all natural, non-addictive form of treating pain in the back, neck and joints. If you have any questions at any time before, during, or after your visit, just ask your chiropractor. They'll be glad to answer them and help put you at ease.

Will It Leave Me Feeling Sore?

Probably as much as starting a new exercise program the first time. Your chiropractor will likely suggest some light stretching exercises and ice treatment if you start feeling soreness. You should also drink plenty of water as well.

How Long Are the Visits and How Often?

The initial visit will be the longest. Usually about 30 minutes. After that (if needed) about 5 to 10 minutes. After your first visit, exam, and adjustment, your chiropractor will determine when you should have your next adjustment and how many you may need.

The Joint Chiropractic has more than 500 nationwide locations. No appointment is necessary and they offer several treatment plans to fit your budget.
