When Chronic Pain Sets In, There Are Helpful Options
By Stephen R. Farris
Do you suffer from chronic pain? Has it lasted for more than a few months, years even? It might be time to seek the advice from a healthcare professional, such as your primary doctor or local chiropractor to find the root of your chronic pain.
As we grow older, sometimes aches and pains simply won't go away. They tend to linger on. It could be from an old or current injury, from surgery, constant headaches, lower back, cancer or even arthritis, which is common these days at nearly any age.
Unfortunately, there is no one cause of chronic pain. As mentioned above, it can result from almost anything health-related. Most folks susceptible to chronic pain are females, overweight or obese individuals, and post-surgery to name some.
There are a few treatments available to help treat chronic pain, and may give you some short-term relief.
- Anti-inflammatory medicine, such as Tylenol, Aleve and Advil.
- Prescription drugs such as morphine, codeine or hydrocodone.
- Antidepressants and/or anticonvulsants
However, these treatment options can produce some unwanted side effects and can possibly become addictive.
The good news is there are natural ways to help when seeking relief from chronic pain.
- Physical therapy
- Aerobic exercise such as yoga and tai chi
- Music therapy
- Art therapy
- Pet therapy
- Psychotherapy
- Massage
- Meditation
Even better news, you don't necessarily have to limit yourself to just one of these. You can do or try as many of them as you like.
Continue to do the important things in your life as well. Stay with your normal daily routine. Make sure you are eating healthy, getting plenty of exercise to keep your mobility up and sleeping restful at night.
