Watching Your Weight? Give These Tips a Try

By Virginia Laird

There are times I wish that weight loss was as simple as taking a magic pill. However, this is not the case. It takes hard work, determination, and resilience to stay on track and focused toward your end goal. Unlike other things you may strive for, weight loss can take years to achieve and maintain. Health and wellness experts suggest that there are a few small and simple steps you can commit to that can help you start your journey to a slimmer you. Some of these include:

  • Make the decision to commit to weight loss
  • Add exercise to your daily routine
  • Drink plenty of water

Make the Decision to Commit to Weight Loss

The first step in any weight loss journey is to make the decision that you want to lose weight.  All too often, many think losing weight is a quick fix to help get ready for a vacation or other special occasion. Experts suggest that short-term weight loss, while it may meet your need, may not mean you have made a serious commitment to lose permanent weight. Those who are determined to slim up set goals along the way, make changes to their lifestyle, and surround themselves with individuals who are supportive along the way. Now is the time to make your decision and stick to it, working hard to achieve your goals.

Add Exercise to Your Daily Routine

Research suggests that many who set out on a path to shed a few pounds try to skip out on the exercise portion. While experts admit that weight can be lost without routine exercise, it does play an important role. Fitness professionals teach that exercise helps tone the muscles and skin, which can help it reduce sagging when weight is lost. These same experts suggest that exercising at least three to four times each week can help with weight loss and elasticity of the skin.

Drink Plenty of Water

While soda and juice may be more tempting to the taste buds, water is the best beverage to choose when trying to lose weight. Health and wellness experts suggest that because water is a zero calorie beverage, it can be used to help curb your appetite. It is suggested that you should consume at least one glass of water prior to each meal.

Losing weight can be a lengthy battle. With the new year, it is time to commit to losing your unwanted pounds today.
