Improving Your Health Without Spending a Dime

By Virginia Laird

While some may believe the only way to improve their health is to buy into a fad diet or workout program, this is simply not the case. Although some of those programs may have a great deal to offer, they can be costly. There are many things a person can do to better his or her health without ever needing to spend an extra dime. Some of these alternatives include:

  • Drink more water
  • Get quality sleep
  • Go for a walk
  • Get outside

Drink More Water

While the vast majority of people in the United States may not choose water as their beverage of choice, it is the very best choice. The body needs water to function. Dehydration can cause a great many problems with the body. To make sure a person is drinking enough water, it is suggested that each person drink at least half their body weight in ounces per day.

Get Quality Sleep

Getting quality sleep can prove to be a difficult task, especially for parents with small children. However, it is necessary to achieve. It is recommended that adults gets at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Those who do not get enough sleep can be more at risk of injury and illness. Research suggests that a person's brain functions more clearly with the appropriate amount of sleep. A lack of such sleep can cause cloudiness of thoughts.

Go for a Walk

Exercise is an important part of improving a person’s health. There is no need to purchase a gym membership or a plethora of workout videos. Going for a walk can accomplish the job. It is recommended a person go for a brisk walk at least three to four times a week. Many personal trainers and fitness instructors would suggest a brisk three-mile walk to be just as beneficial as a hard workout, but much less taxing on the joints.

Get Outside

Spending time outside can do a great deal of good for the body. Fresh air has been linked to improving the immune system, as well as lowering a person’s stress level. Research suggests getting outside for as little as 20 minutes a day can vastly improve a person’s health and attitude.

Hopefully, you are now armed with the information you need to begin improving your health. Good luck on your path to a healthier you!
