Leaves of Green May Build Good Health

By Tom Herrin

When people make their choices about food, they use many different kinds of reasons for doing so.  Many simply choose what they like to eat.  Sometimes this is good, and sometimes it is not.  If they look at some kind of food for it value, they will want to weigh the pros and cons and select something that is tolerable to their taste.  A lot of these choices in food is an acquired taste.  When picking something based on nutritional value, they may want to spend some time in the produce section, especially with the leafy vegetables.

They May Be Good For Digestion

Leafy vegetables have been found to have great properties to improve digestion.  When people have digestive problems, they generally feel bad.  Leafy vegetables may help to restore many of the lost minerals and vitamins.  Many of them have generous amounts of magnesium and potassium as well as plenty of vitamins.

They May Help Manage Cholesterol

With the amount of food people eat today that is made for those on-the-go, it is pretty easy to rely on foods that tend to be poor quality.  Much of it will raise the levels of cholesterol.  Leafy green vegetables are often considered to be the healthy choice.  They seem to have the ability to help in keeping the blood vessels clear of many of those things that can build up and cause blockages or a loss of flexibility.  Eating them is a good habit to form.  Starting early and eating them regularly can be a big part of health management.

They May Help Protect Heart Health

Whether we really like leafy green vegetables or not, they are good for us.  Most of the time, when we feel that we don't like them, we simply haven't learned how to eat them.  I eat them as much as possible.  They can provide lots of nutrients, as well as fill me up the right way while avoiding that heavy feeling.  Not only can they control cholesterol levels, but they can also help to control blood pressure.  When it comes to providing some things that we may need -- but frequently resort to meat to acquire it -- they may be a much better alternative.  I try to eat them to improve my levels of iron.  Many of them also provide calcium that we often find ourselves low on as we age.
