Mom's Advice: What You Should Be Doing as an Adult

By Genevieve Cunningham

Moms give most people a certain nostalgic and comforting feeling. When we think of moms, we think of warm hugs, delicious food, and bedtime stories. It seems as though mom was always full of love and hugs and advice. Of course, as young kids, we ignored most of that advice. But as adults, you may have found that a lot of that advice has actually come in quite useful! If you're in need of advice that can improve your health and make you feel better, take a look at these three pieces of mom's advice that should be added to your life as soon as possible.

You Should Probably Go to Bed

Your mom wasn't nagging you. She was trying to keep you well! Very few people actually get enough sleep. And our ongoing lack of sleep leads to poor focus, exhaustion, sore muscles, and an increased risk of illness. If you want to function well, perform your best, and feel healthy and strong, set yourself a bedtime and stick with it -- just like your mom insisted years ago!

You Should Call Your Grandma

It's not necessarily your grandma, specifically, but rather the family and personal connection that you should keep open in your life. In today's world, we get way too caught up in our online presence. How many friends do we have on Facebook? How many likes did our selfie get? This thinking doesn't result in anything good. It turns into selfishness and poor mental health. If we want to be healthy and happy, we need to keep those personal relationships alive and well. We need to make the phone call, meet for coffee, give hugs. If you keep these alive, everything in your life will likely improve.

You Should Eat Your Veggies

Vegetables are so good for us, and the vast majority of people don't eat enough. Vegetables are full of vitamins and nutrients, and yet, they're extremely low in calories. If you want to be as healthy as possible or lose weight or a combination of the two, you should be eating a lot of vegetables. Find some recipes, experiment, or -- wait for it -- call your mom for some ideas. The more you learn to eat vegetables, the healthier your diet and body will become.

As adults, we shape our own lives. We live by our own rules. We do our own research and make our own decisions. But if we're being honest, most of us can admit that mom was totally right about a lot of things. Use these little pieces of information to help shape your life into something healthier, and enjoy the life improvements that come with them.
