Dr. Wegerski Talks Safety at Triangle Rock Club

With rock climbing season on the horizon, Dr. Todd Wegerski will speak at the Triangle Rock Club in Morrisville on March 23 to help perspective climbers remain safe for their ascending endeavors.

The chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic in Morrisville, Dr. Wegerski's free clinic will offer experienced and inexperienced climbers tips on protecting the body and the spine in the days and weeks before a climb.

As a rock climber, everything is based off of the foundation of the spine; arm and leg movements require a stable spine to develop power and strength as a rock climber. A stable spine can improve performance and reduce and prevent injuries.

Injuries, or pain, changes everything because it alters the way we move -- and that can be especially dangerous on the face of a mountain.

"When we're in pain, we recruit muscles that typically do not perform the action that we are asking them to perform," Dr. Wegerski says. "Our brain shuts off certain muscles to compensate for the muscles in pain, but when the pain has gone away our body continues to move with these altered movement patterns."

Dr. Wegerski will discuss the risks of exercising in pain and what rock climbing athletes should do in preparation before grabbing that first foothold. One thing is certain: Climbers should be assessed at The Joint Chiropractic in Morrisville to determine the root cause of any pain and developing a course of treatment to restore optimum viability.

The clinic takes place in the Summit Room of the Triangle Rock Club in Morrisville, 7 p.m., on March 23.
