Your Shoes Can Be Causing Your Pain

By Virginia Laird

When it comes to back pain, chiropractors admit that what you wear on your feet can play a huge factor. Daily, there are many who admit to struggling with back pain while trying to accomplish a wide array of tasks. Accomplishing anything with such pain present can be enough to stop you from getting things done. Research suggests that wearing the right shoes can help manage and prevent back pain. A few chiropractic tips concerning your shoes include:

  • Wear comfy shoes when possible
  • Avoid wearing high heels
  • Get off your feet plenty

Wear Comfy Shoes When Possible

Chiropractors indicate that your shoes play a huge role in the amount of pain you may or may not experience. For this reason it is suggested that you wear comfy shoes as much as possible. This includes shoes that offer support for the foot. While many believe that comfy shoes include sandals and flip-flops, this is not the case. Neither provide the support needed to prevent back pain. Instead, chiropractors suggest that tennis shoes are best. Still, there are some who need dress shoes to be comfy as well. Take the time when shopping for shoes to try on each pair until you find one that provides the support you need.

Avoid Wearing High Heels

Chiropractors suggest that wearing high heels is one of the worst things you can do for both your back and your feet. While these shoes meet fashion demands, they offer little support. These shoes are also known to inhibit the natural stride causing you to put more stress on your spine as you walk. High heels can cause your spine to shift and lead to joint restrictions, which can cause a great deal of pain. Chiropractors suggest that if you love to wear heels, you try to keep your high heels at or below 2 inches to help prevent back pain.

Get Off Your Feet Plenty

Research suggests that those who were on their feet for long periods of time may struggle to prevent back pain. As you tackle your daily tasks and life at work, chiropractors suggest that no matter what shoe is on your foot, taking breaks to get off of your feet can be beneficial in preventing and managing back pain. It is recommended that you find at least 15 minutes every couple of hours to sit down, sit back and relax. This can go a long way in keeping back pain at bay.
