What You Can Learn About Chiropractic Care from an Olympic Medalist
By Debra Rodzinak
As a runner, I often subscribe to the long published magazine Runner’s World. This magazine offers advice on eating plans, proper running shoes, and even pain management, which is an everyday event for many runners. Runner’s World recently reported on athletes who use chiropractic care as part of their overall health and wellness regime.
I was surprised to find that one of my running heroes, Meb Keflezighi, reported that he gets regular chiropractic adjustments. You may remember Meb (as he is affectionately called in the running world) from a few years ago. He was the 38-year-old U.S. male marathoner who won the 2014 Boston Marathon. A former Olympic silver medalist, he is also slated to run this summer in Rio as the oldest U.S. Olympic runner in history. So when Meb speaks about running, I listen.
"I've been going (for chiropractic adjustments) since 1993 when I was in high school," Meb says. "Now I try and get adjusted at least once every two weeks."
A Growing Trend
Chiropractic treatment among elite runners is a growing trend. Many of these expert marathoners are drawn to chiropractic because of the whole body treatment, not just treatment of an injury. Many have reported significant benefits from chiropractic adjustments without the use of pain medications or drugs. Runners are always looking for an edge and many have found it in regular chiropractic care.
