Partner Up at the Gym!
By Donna Stark
There are a lot of things I prefer to do alone, things like shopping, riding my bike, and cleaning my house. But there are also times when having some company by my side makes it better, and working out in a gym is one of those times. If your fitness routine typically consists of only you and the machines, it may be time to try something new! Check out the following reasons why you should have a partner in the gym. You may end up thinking it's better, too!
Even when you know you shouldn't do it, it's far too easy to skip a workout or quit when things get tough when you are on your own. Sharing your gym time with a friend is a great way to stick to your commitments. You are far less likely to cancel when you know someone else is going to hold you accountable!
This is mostly for those times when you want to lift weights. Having someone by your side to spot you throughout the workout is the smart way to stay safe. Your partner can keep an eye on your form, help you count reps, and even get you through those last few lifts when the weight becomes too much.
Enjoying Some Friendly Competition
For some reason, when I work out alone, I think I am killing it. And then when my partner works out with me, I realize I really wasn't pushing myself at all. Having a partner next to you that may be better at some things will motivate you to reach for those challenges that you may have skipped when you were by yourself.
Sharing Cheat Day
There is nothing more fun than enjoying the fruits of your efforts, especially when it comes to your workout partner and cheat day! In addition to bonding over the food you have been salivating for all week, it's also a great way to maintain some control. I mean, sure, it's a cheat day, but you don't want to set yourself so far back that you need to work out even harder during the week ahead. Keeping each other in check during your cheat meal is the true definition of a friend!
In addition to sticking to your commitment and hitting those goals, having a partner at the gym can also be a ton of fun and is a great way to strengthen your relationship! So leave the alone time for when you want to read a book and grab a friend when it's time to exercise!
