Preventing Back Pain While Tackling the Airport

By Virginia Laird

Spring breakers across the country will set out to enjoy their week off from work and school. While many may choose to travel via road trip, some will choose a destination which requires tackling all the fun that comes with traveling by plane. Chiropractors suggest that for many, back pain can accompany travel of any kind. For this reason, chiropractors have offered a list of tips to follow to help keep back pain at bay as you take on the airport. These tips include:

  • Invest in luggage with wheels
  • Keep your carry on light
  • Wear comfortable shoes

Invest in Luggage With Wheels

Chiropractors admit that using luggage with wheels is a great way to keep the heavy load off your back. Airports are large and can require a great deal of walking.  Not only should you consider the long walk through the airport, but if you are parking, it can take quite a stroll to get from the lot to the terminal as well. Doing all this walking while toting a heavy load can wreak havoc on the back. To prevent pain, start looking for a bag you can roll for your trip right away. Don't assume you need to spend money on such luggage, many of your friends may be willing to loan a good suitcase for your trip.

Keep Your Carry On Light

When traveling by plane, another thing to consider is your carry on. Chiropractors suggest that you keep these small and light. While there are many things you could throw in your carry-on luggage, chiropractors suggest you only keep what is necessary for the plane, putting all other items in your checked bag. This is a great way to keep your load light. Chiropractors also suggest that while you are allowed two personal items, it may be best to attempt to carry only one. Any weight you can keep off your back while waiting and walking through an airport will be helpful in keeping back pain at bay while on your vacation.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Chiropractors also admit that it is essential to wear comfortable shoes while traveling. Inevitably, you will find yourself on your feet for long periods of time, both while you travel and while you enjoy your destination. Traveling in comfy shoes is vital in preventing back pain. Chiropractors suggest that you should wear shoes which do not inhibit your natural stride. These are generally going to be your broken in tennis shoes. As you plan your outfits, be sure to plan them to include your comfy shoes.
