Pain in the Pews: Try This to Prevent Pain at Church

There are times when pain can keep you from being excited about heading to worship. When this happens, it is time to find a solution. Chiropractors admit there are several things you can do to help manage and prevent your back pain from interrupting your time at church. A few of their tips include:

  • Standing is acceptable
  • Stretch before you go 
  • Sit with your feet flat on the ground

Standing is Acceptable

Although there are many who think they must sit completely still throughout the entire church service, this is not the case. It is completely acceptable to get up, and even stand in the back of the chapel as you listen to the sermon. Chiropractors say that getting up and moving can help allow the growing tension from sitting in the hard and quite uncomfortable pews to release. The next time you begin to experience back pain while listening to your preacher, consider standing in the back to take control of your pain. 

Stretch Before You Go 

There are times that stretching can help eliminate and manage back pain. Chiropractors admit that anytime you think you will be sitting for an extended period of time, stretching beforehand can be helpful; this includes church. Of course, you may not want to sprawl out in the foyer just before heading in to your seat. Chiropractors say that light stretching at home can be enough to help you get rid of unwanted stress in the back and allow you to make it through your church service sans back pain. These stretches should include both the back and neck. Give it a try this week.

Sit With Your Feet Flat on the Ground

Sitting with your feet flat on the ground is best for your posture, according to chiropractors. However, it can be problematic for those on the shorter side. When this is the case, there are a few things you can do. Some recommend using books to help you reach the floor, while others may choose to bring a small folding stool in a bag. Even still, many churches have benches (for kneeling) at each pew that can help you better keep your feet flatly planted and your posture on mark.
