Get a Better Workout When Using Proper Posture

By Brandi Swieter

Proper posture is needed to get a good workout. Without standing in the right position when doing exercises, the body is often strained and slouched. This can quickly lead to muscle fatigue and pain if people overdo it. Proper posture will allow people to get in a better workout that will leave their bodies feeling good rather than sore.

Prevents Muscle Strain

When people try to exercise in an incorrect position, it can lead to muscle strain. When this strain takes place, many people feel pain throughout many muscles of their body. This particularly holds true for the back and neck.

Prevents Muscle Fatigue

An incorrect position means the body has to work harder to get in a good workout. Muscle fatigue will set in quickly in this instance. With the right posture, the body will not have to work as hard to get the job done. Muscle fatigue will therefore be prevented so people can continue to exercise for longer.

Reduces Stiffness

The body becomes stiff when the posture is left uncorrected for some time. This will make it more difficult to work out correctly, thus requiring better posture for reduced stiffness and more control over the body and its flexibility.

Using Exercise to Improve Posture

Rather than attempting to stand straight and keep the body upright when working out, certain exercises can be used to help improve posture so it doesn’t have to be a major thought and concern each time. With a few key moves, posture can get corrected so it becomes the new normal for the body. It is best to start by trying out some core strengthening exercises, as it is the core that holds the body upright. Yoga and Pilates work well for this.

It is also important to tone the muscle groups that help support the core. This means doing exercises that work out the lower body in particular, including the thighs, calves, and buttocks. They will support the weight of the torso so it can remain in the proper position thereafter. Walking and cycling are two ideal ways to help.

With the right posture, the workouts people do should be much more efficient. Anyone experiencing pain or soreness from using an incorrect format while exercising can visit their chiropractor for an adjustment. The Joint Chiropractic offers hundreds of clinics throughout the U.S.
