Sleep Solutions for Every Occasion
By Brandi Goodman
Sleep can be difficult to come by, especially if the weather is too harsh or you're not in your own bed. With some sleep solutions for every occasion, you can find some healthy alternatives to ensure a better night's rest. Give them a try and see if they help you achieve the Zzz's you need.
When You're Traveling
Staying in a hotel can sometimes prove beneficial. If it's a luxury hotel with comfortable linens and a pillow that feels like a cloud, you're more likely to get better sleep. If it's a basic hotel with a stiff bed and uncomfortable bedding, you're going to struggle. Bring your own pillow and blanket so you can at least get some comfort from these items from home.
When It's Cold
Even at home, it can be hard to drift off when you're extremely cold. You're more likely to shiver the night away without any rest if you don't take precautions. First, make sure you have a warm blanket. A thin sheet won't provide the warmth you need. You should also remain fully clothed, including keeping socks on your feet, to help keep your body heat in.
When It's Hot
It's even more difficult for many people to fall asleep when it's hot. Those summer months can be excruciating. Here are a few options:
- Use a thin sheet
- Place a bucket of ice in front of your fan if you don't have AC
- Spritz yourself or your sheets with cool water
When You're Camping
Camping is common from early spring through late fall. However, it can be hard to drift off when you're on a hard ground in a tent. Get an air mattress instead of sleeping in nothing but a sleeping bag. It will offer some comfort and protection for your back. Be sure to choose a sleeping bag to go with it that has a low temperature rating. It can get extremely cold at night.
No matter where you are or what the weather is like, you need to prepare properly so you can sleep to the best of your ability. You don't want a restless night that leads to you feeling exhausted the next day. With these tips in mind, you should be able to accomplish a better rest that will give you the energy you need.
