3 Simple Things That Can Boost Your Health
By Paul Rothbart
When it comes to your health, the little things add up. Certainly, you need to eat well, exercise regularly, and get consistently good sleep. There are other things that can make a solid contribution to your overall health. They don't have to be complex or take up huge amounts of your time. You just have to get into the habit of doing these things on a regular basis. Here are three of them that can make a difference.
Drink Water
Many people do not drink nearly enough water each day. By the time you feel thirsty, you are already past the point of needing hydration. Water helps flush waste products out of the liver and kidneys, helps the body regulate its temperature, and lubricates the joints. It also is a major component of the blood that supplies your cells with fuel and oxygen. Organs and tissues are kept moist and protected by water. In short, water is essential to good health. The Mayo Clinic recommends that women drink 11.5 cups per day and men 15.5 Increase that amount in hot weather or when sweating profusely.
Stretching
Muscles and tendons that are tight and lack flexibility can be painful and are at risk for pulls, strains, and tears. Anyone who is serious about physical training knows the importance of stretching before and after workouts. It's also a good idea to perform a stretching routine daily. In the morning, after getting out of bed, is ideal. Stretching keeps your muscles and tendons limber and elastic. They will function better throughout the day and you will be at a lesser risk of injury. Stretches warm up your body and get the blood flowing and can help you get ready both physically and mentally for the challenges of the day. You don't need to spend a lot of time. A 5-minute stretching regimen is sufficient for most people.
See a Chiropractor
Another thing you may want to consider is regular chiropractic appointments. Chiropractors are best known for fixing injured backs but they can do much more. There are all kinds of aches and pains people experience daily that can be connected to problems in the spine and joints. Even tension headaches and migraines may originate in the spinal cord. A chiropractor can examine you and find any subluxations or other problems and correct them with an adjustment. This can relieve the pain and with periodic treatments, the risk of the pain returning may be diminished. Some chiropractic patients find that they sleep better as well as manage stress better when making regular visits.
Making the effort to do all the little things that add up to better health is an investment in yourself. Drink enough water, try stretching, and consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is needed. You may find that seeing a chiropractor regular becomes one of those things that helps improve your overall health.
