3 Questions Your Chiropractor Will Ask

By Rachel Shouse

There are a multitude of topics you could discuss with your chiropractor. Since they're trained in the musculoskeletal system, their knowledge is beyond vast. For those who may not know, your musculoskeletal system consists of your muscles, ligaments, cartilage, and tendons. In order to take proper care of these areas your chiropractor is going to ask some questions. They'll ask what brought you to the chiropractor, your exercise routine, and your diet.

What Brought You to the Chiropractor?

While your doctor would be happy to see you regardless of the reason, they're going to want to make sure that all of your questions and concerns are answered. Some go to the chiropractor because they're in pain or have some worries. Others may go because they're seeking a more natural approach to their health care.

You may be in both boats, which is OK. Another great aspect to chiropractic care is their ability to prevent surgeries and painkillers if they're at all avoidable. They may ask you to make some changes in your daily life in order to assist the recovery. While this may feel inconvenient, not following the doctor's instructions could lead to a much longer recovery.

What's Your Exercise Routine Like?

Some folks have a rather disciplined exercise regimen. Other people may struggle with this area. It's best to be honest with your doctor regardless. There's no shame in having a struggle, everyone does. Remaining honest is the best way to reach your goals as quickly as possible.

If you struggle to get your exercise in, whether it's due to time or motivation, keep your goals in the forefront of your thoughts. The more you think about why you're doing something, the easier it is to complete. Some days it may feel like your goals aren't as important as others. Just do your best and don't fret.

What Do You Eat on a Daily Basis?

This could be another rough spot for some. Maintaining a healthy diet is difficult, especially if you either struggle with it now or have in the past. Doctors ask about your diet because the lack of certain types of food can cause problems for you both mentally and physically. In order to ensure that you're getting the nutrition that your body needs, they'll probably have some recommendations.

Addressing this many issues may feel overwhelming and that's normal. It's not easy opening up to someone new and/or talking about your possible shortcomings. Remember that this discomfort is only temporary. Staying on track is going to prevent you from having to constantly deal with these problems.
