Stress Relief and Chiropractic Care

By Rachel Shouse

Stress relief can sometimes feel unattainable. It may feel like trying to gain exactly that: stress relief. It can be difficult to find time for yourself and alone time is usually a big part of relieving stress. Overwhelming feelings find a way to creep their way into our lives, whether through work, school, home, health, etc. Making changes to these areas could provide a serious reduction in your stress levels by choosing chiropractic care, creating a more relaxed routine, and establishing boundaries.

Why Try Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is sought out for a number of reasons. Some may go this direction because they prefer a more natural approach to their healthcare. Others may want this type of care because they understand the importance of caring for their musculoskeletal system. This is the area that chiropractors are trained in. The areas that fall within this system are ligaments, tendons, muscles, bones, and cartilage.

Along with caring for this area, chiropractors are loaded with advice that could help you outside the office. They may recommend that you make changes to your diet and exercise regimen. They'll suggest these changes for a number of reasons: heart health, being at a healthy weight, eating a well-balanced diet, etc.  It's scientifically proven that the better you take care of your body, the better chance you have of living a longer and happier life.

Creating a Relaxing Routine: Keep it Stress-Free

The very thought of mowing the lawn, cleaning the bathroom, writing that paper, etc., can sometimes feel like a mountain. Usually we do this to ourselves -- making mountains out of molehills, that is. While no one's day is going to be perfect, it's important that you try your best to create a simple routine. Prioritize what you need to get done first. After that, you fill in the miscellaneous things you need to complete. Tackling those must-dos reduces stress like you would not believe.

Establishing Boundaries Isn't Only for Relationships

Don't cringe. We're not here to talk about laying down the law with your in-laws. It's more about not letting all of the different areas of your life bleed into each other. You won't be perfect; sometimes you'll bring work home, you'll allow an insignificant mess to pull you from your child, and the list goes on. However, being intentional about trying to change this could yield surprising benefits.

Some of you may thrive with change. You may feel a great new sense of purpose. Others may need a little more time to adjust and that's perfectly OK. If this feels at all overwhelming, feel free to break it up and make it more manageable for you and your lifestyle.
