Want Your Cleanse to Work? 3 Things to Include

By Virginia Laird

There are millions across the country preparing to take on the challenge of a cleanse. While this can be an inviting temptation, health and wellness professionals advise that a cleanse can only be successful when the participant is seriously committed. The need to stick strictly to the plan is more intense than any other diet on the market. A cleanse is designed to clean out the toxins from the body and eliminate the harmful and excessive chemicals which can slow the body down. Without strict adherence to this plan, it can be impossible to see any results. Many utilize a cleanse as part of a weight loss jumping point, while others may be looking to make changes to their lifestyle and eating habits. Participants have offered a few helpful tips for getting the most from a cleanse, including:

  • Make sure to drink plenty of water
  • Go to bed when you are tired
  • Eat clean everything

Make Sure to Drink Plenty of Water

Water is the key to flushing the digestive system. Without consuming enough water to help flush out the toxins, the body will hold onto them. It is vital to consume at least half of the body’s weight in ounces daily. However, when cleansing even more water is best to help rid the system of harmful substances.

Go to Bed When You are Tired

Sleep is always a necessary part of life. This is even more true when cleansing. As the body tries to repair itself and detoxify, it needs sleep. It is recommended by sleep professionals that the average adult should get a minimum of at least six hours of sleep each night. If you are like me, there is so much which needs to be done in the evenings that often I work through my first period of exhaustion and catch a second wind. Making a habit of skipping out on bedtime when you are tired can hamper your ability to get enough rest. Bottom line: Go to bed when you are tired. The housework will still be there in the morning.

Eat Clean Everything

Choosing to eat clean is the best way to make certain your cleanse was not in vain. Because the cleanse helps to detox the body, it would seem unwise to complete the cleanse just to begin putting these harmful chemicals back into the body. Eating organic is just one way to help prevent the build-up of toxins in the body again.

Now you are ready to begin your cleanse and have it be a success. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you!
