Do you love to jog? Jogging is one of my favorite exercises, as it is freeing and can help clear the brain. However, during the summer months, it can prove to be a bit of a struggle to find the motivation to get outside and jog while the temperatures are far from ideal. Health and wellness experts advise that jogging outdoors, in weather which is too hot, can lead to serious health issues. Fortunately, these professionals have put together a few tips on how to make your jog happen while dealing with the summer heat. These tips include:

  • Don't overdo it
  • Hydration is key to success

Timing is Everything

When deciding to exercise outdoors, timing should always be considered. This is especially true throughout the summer. While it can be wonderful to exercise in the freedom of the outdoors, it can be brutal as the heat of summer takes over. Health and wellness experts suggest it is best to make sure to work out early in the day, rather than later. This can help you avoid struggling with heat-related illnesses which sometimes can be fatal. It is vital throughout the summer to make sure you keep track of the time and only exercise outdoors while the temperatures are in your favor.

Don't Overdo It

Fitness gurus suggest it is wise to avoid overdoing it while exercising outside. It is suggested that you know your limits. Research suggests that there is a difference between the amount of work that can be exerted indoors as opposed to outside in the heat. Take breaks and hydrate often while training in the heat. When you feel as though you have reached your limit, stop. Fitness experts advise that your limit will most likely be less than it would be if you were inside the gym.

Hydration is Key to Success

Another important factor for making your outdoor workout successful is staying hydrated. This remains imperative throughout the summer months. Some experts advise that staying hydrated is not a battle which can only be fought while in the heat. Rather, it is important to hydrate all day long. It is recommended that you should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces each day. However, keep in mind that you may need more than this if you are exercising outside.

It is never too late to begin making healthy changes to your routine and habits. As you head outside to log miles or simply exercise, it is paramount to do so carefully while experiencing the summer heat.
