Camping Like Your Health Depends on It

By Virginia Laird

Have you recently decided that it is time to improve your health? There are many choices to make when finding what may work for your health. While hitting the gym and spending hours exercising is a great choice, there are other activities which can improve health without being trapped indoors. Health and wellness experts advise that one activity which can improve health is camping. Although this may be difficult for you to believe, it is true. Research suggests that camping offers many benefits for the overall health and wellness of those who participate. A few of the benefits include:

  • Campers have less time to snack
  • Camping offers plenty of opportunity to exercise
  • Fresh air and sunlight boosts your health

Campers Have Less Time to Snack

While you are at home, consider how often you head to your cabinet for a snack? I am guilty of findng my way to the kitchen when there seems to be little else to do. There are millions across the nation who do the same. This can pose a problem to overall health, as well as the waist. While many do not like to admit to sharing this issue, snacking for comfort is a bad habit which can be a struggle to break. Health and wellness and experts advise that snacking is limited while you are camping for many reasons. Some suggest that snacking while camping is limited because of the numerous activities which keep the group too busy to think about food. Others suggest that snacking while camping is limited due to the food selection being confined to what is brought along. No matter what the reason is for snacking less while camping, the benefits are the same. Snacking less can be a great way to promote weight loss and improve health.

Camping Offers Plenty of Opportunity to Exercise

Those who make the habit of camping participate in exercise without even trying. Many find themselves going on hikes, taking the canoe on the river or lake, boating, or enjoying a host of other acitivies. These are a few of the reasons why health and wellness experts suggest avid campers tend to be more physically fit than those who do not.

Fresh Air and Sunlight Boost Your Health

Research has long suggested that fresh air and sunlight offer many benefits for overall health. Vitamin D is naturally provided by the sun. Spending time outdoors allows you to soak it up. Healthcare providers have suggested that spending time in the fresh air can help boost the immune system. Camping allows each person to reap the benefits of both.

The time has come to dust off your sleeping bag, grab your tent, and find your favorite camping location to begin improving your health in the most exciting way possible.
