4 Daily Habits That Are Killing Your Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

A lot of people, if not overly obese or participating in obvious bad behavior, probably consider themselves relatively healthy. They eat well most of the time, participate in moderate exercise, and maintain a decent weight. Healthy enough, right? Maybe not. Many of us actually participate in habits every single day that may be harming our overall health. Read on to find some typical daily habits that may be ruining your health long term.

You Skip Breakfast

Your mama wasn’t lying when she said that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. Breakfast not only gets your metabolism moving, but it literally fuels you for the beginning of the day. A good breakfast can help you jumpstart both your body and your mind, and without it you are essentially running on empty. Your body can’t get moving because you didn’t give it any fuel. Instead of skipping, make it easy on yourself. Breakfast doesn’t have to be difficult. Pop in a piece of toast and scramble an egg and you have a complete breakfast that took less than 5 minutes.

You Fall Into Bed Without Brushing Your Teeth

Most of us brush our teeth on a regular basis. Some people, however, tend to skip the nighttime brush in lieu of pouring themselves into bed. This one time won’t hurt, they think. The problem is that one time generally turns into two, five, and then becomes a regular habit. When you don’t brush your teeth, plaque attacks the enamel and can make the appearance of your teeth unappealing. Even more severe, it can lead to gum disease, which has a direct link to heart disease. The cure? Just brush your teeth. It takes all of 5 minutes and may save your appearance and your health.

You Sit All Day

Excessive sitting is linked to increased chance for heart disease, higher body fat percentage, and a significant increase in general aches and pains. Though many have jobs that require sitting, there is no reason that you can’t make some time for movement. Even just standing is thought to make a significant impact on health. If you do have a desk job, make sure that exercise is high on the priority list, and take as many moments to move about throughout the day as you possibly can.

You Skip Sunscreen

By this point, the damaging effects of the sun are well known. Age spots, premature wrinkles, and skin cancer can all be caused by too much exposure to the sun. What many people forget is that even though you are not at the beach, you are still being exposed to the sun. That is why sunscreen is important every single day. Make sure that it is a part of your daily routine, and make sure to include your hands and neck because these areas get a lot of sun without most even noticing.

Taking care of your health is important, and since our habits really make up who we are, it is important to keep our habits as healthy as possible. If you are guilty of any of the above, it’s not too late to make a change! Get control of your habits, make good choices, and see a marked improvement in your health.
