Save Your Back and Pack Smart
By Donna Stark
Your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic want you to enjoy your summer vacation plans. And whether that involves you traveling by automobile, train, or plane, they hope you safely arrive at your final destination in good health. Unfortunately though, some people don't, and they spend the majority of their vacation suffering in pain. Why? Well, let's just say that the airline weight limit for suitcases isn't just an arbitrary number that someone came up with. It's a smart guideline to follow not only for the plane but also for your back!
Packing Light to Save Your Back
Lugging around and lifting a heavy suitcase is a great way to hurt your back and ruin everything you dreamed your vacation would be like. Here are some tips on how to pack lightly from your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic.
- Make a packing list - Create a packing checklist of things you need and things you want, then try to cut the "wants" in half. If possible, limit yourself to no more than a week's worth of clothing, no matter how long your trip is.
- Pack things that can be used in multiple ways - Try to pack items that serve more than one purpose, such as reversible sweatshirts, sarongs, or leggings that can be worn as a day outfit and then again as an outfit to exercise in.
- Pack neutral colors - By sticking with a simple and neutral color palette, you will be able to mix and match outfits easily. Darker colors will keep a cleaner appearance longer than lighter colors which give you the option of wearing things twice if you can't launder your clothes. You can always add a splash of color with a scarf or some jewelry too!
- Pack multipurpose footwear - Pack the sandals that can be worn with both dresses and jeans, and forget the hiking boots and consider trail-running shoes so you can wear them for sightseeing too. Depending on what kind of trip you are taking, you may only need a couple of options. And to outsmart everyone, wear the heaviest or most awkward pair to pack on the day you are traveling.
Visit Your Chiropractor Before You Leave
Now that you have everything ready to pack, make sure you see your local chiropractor before you leave! In addition to reducing the risk of pain and discomfort while traveling, a chiropractic adjustment can also help to improve your immune system (and we all know how important that is when sitting next to strangers on a plane). So give your body the boost it needs and head on in to The Joint chiropractic! With more than 450 locations nationwide, daily hours, and no appointment required, it couldn't be any easier to fit a session in before you leave for your trip!
