Following Chiropractic Advice When Shopping

By Brandi Swieter

Though shopping is done all throughout the year, the month of May seems to be a major shopping time for people all across America. The weather is getting warmer, kids are getting out of school, people are going on summer vacations, and a whole new wardrobe of summer clothes and shoes needs to be purchased. Shopping can take a toll on the body if people aren’t careful, so it’s important for shoppers to follow some chiropractic advice to make the pastime safer and better for the back.

Stretch Before and After Shopping

Stretching is important before and after any workout, and shopping can be just that. While running into the store to quickly grab an item or two isn’t all that stressful on the body, a full day of shopping, walking around from one end of the mall to the other, and carrying heavy bags, definitely is. Stretching beforehand helps to prepare the body while doing so afterward helps it recover faster.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Wearing high heels or sandals while shopping isn’t the greatest idea. Uncomfortable shoes will leave the legs sore and the body feeling tired quickly. It is far better to wear comfortable shoes, such as a pair with arch support, while shopping. It can extend the trip since soreness will not set in so easily.

Stay Hydrated

The body needs water to stay hydrated. It also needs water to increase blood flow and keep the muscles from spasming after being worked. Many shoppers spend hours out and about finding their items without ever taking a drink. This should never be the case, as all shoppers should have at least a full bottle of water with them to drink as needed throughout the trip. Even without a bottle of their own, shoppers can still head near the restrooms where drinking fountains are provided to get a few sips.

Bring Bags to the Car

Too many people attempt to shop at the mall while carrying every bag they’ve accumulated throughout the trip. All of this extra weight is harmful to the body and can cause back pain easily. The best option is to bring bags to the car so the extra weight does not become burdensome. Get a couple of bags and then bring them to the vehicle before continuing on.

Shopping can put major strain on the back if people aren’t careful. By following some advice from the chiropractor, more and more shoppers will experience pain-free trips to get all their clothes and gear. Any shoppers who do experience pain should visit The Joint Chiropractic to relieve any joint restrictions and get their bodies feeling better.
