6 Basic Chiropractic Tips for Preventing Pain

By Brandi Swieter

Pain prevention is a common desire for many people. Those who suffer from pain frequently are especially eager to learn ways to cope that don't require the constant need for medication or days spent in bed. With some basic chiropractic tips, people everywhere can have an easier time preventing pain and managing any aches that do arise.

Strengthen Your Core

Strengthening the core is the first step toward strengthening the back. A strong core maintains balance, improves flexibility, and prevents injury. Sit-ups should be avoided. These exercises do more harm on the back than good. A plank is a good alternative.

Stretch Every Morning

Even before a person gets out of bed, there are some stretches they can do to help prevent pain upon waking. Once out of bed they can continue trying a few more stretches to really get the body flexible and capable of taking on the day. The Runner's Stretch and Butterfly Stretch are two valid options.

Keep Your Phone at Eye Level

One of the biggest problems of today is the use of handheld devices. So many people spend hours looking at their phones by lowering their chins to their necks and sitting at an uncomfortable angle. The better option is to keep the phone at eye level by holding it out with the hands. However, this can also get tiring, so sitting the phone on a platform would be the best option.

Sleep in the Right Position

The way a person sleeps has a huge impact on pain throughout the day. Those who tend to fall asleep on their stomachs may notice a stiff neck in the morning since the head was turned to one side. Sleeping on the back with a pillow under the neck and another under the knees is the best option. It helps to keep the natural curve of the spine.

Eat Well, Move Well

The foods people eat and the exercises they do all have major consequences -- or benefits. Eating well and moving well throughout the day helps to improve overall well-being and prevent pain. Nutritious foods, such as fruits,  vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats with protein, are the most beneficial. Getting enough exercise throughout the day is also vital and should be a mix between cardio and strengthening.

See a Chiropractor Regularly

A chiropractor can make sure the body has no joint restrictions and the spine is in proper alignment. The chiropractor can also help to ease some discomfort currently felt. Regular chiropractic visits, perhaps to The Joint Chiropractic, is a major step toward prevention. People who see a doctor of chiropractic often are less likely to feel as tense and experience better overall well-being.
