Chiropractic and Yoga, a Winning Combination
By Donna Kostiew
Sometimes when you combine two amazing things, the finished product is even better than the two items were on their own. I’m thinking of such things as bananas and chocolate, movies and popcorn, or snowstorms and a warm, cozy bed. Two other things that are better when they are combined are chiropractic care and yoga. Let’s take a look at why this is.
Amazing Benefits on Their Own
Both chiropractic care and yoga focus on the body as a whole and provide a number of health benefits that are natural, safe, and effective.
- Chiropractic care - The primary focus of chiropractic care is to place the spine in proper alignment. The spine is incredibly important for so many reasons. It supports the body, protects the central nervous system, and provides the pathways needed for communications to move throughout the body. When the spine is out of alignment it can really affect how the nervous system functions. This can have a direct impact on how well the body responds and feels overall. Chiropractic care also treats injuries and helps the body through the process of aging.
- Yoga - Yoga is known for both its fitness and healing benefits on the body. Not only does it strengthen the body’s core and stretches muscles that may have been restricted for years, it also helps to relieve stress, alleviate depression and reduce anxiety. People who regularly practice yoga find that they can handle stress better and often experience more mobility and flexibility than when they weren’t practicing it.
Better When They are Together
While chiropractic care focuses on placing the spine in proper alignment and balancing the body, yoga focuses on strengthening the muscles surrounding the spine and providing better support. By strengthening the muscles, yoga is essentially helping to prepare the body to receive the benefits from a chiropractic treatment. It encourages quicker healing and makes it easier for the body to respond to the adjustment that a chiropractor provides.
Patients who regularly practice yoga and receive chiropractic treatments often find that they see the combined benefits from both more often than they do from each one separately and on its own. Although they both offer similar fitness and health benefits, they do so from somewhat different approaches, which provides a more balanced, well-rounded treatment.
Chiropractic care and yoga complement each other perfectly and many people are beginning to discover the amazing benefits to their health from this incredible combination. It is so good, it may even surpass the combination of bananas and chocolate.
