Summer Activities That Can Lower Stress Levels

By Genevieve Cunningham

Stress is one of those things that we will never live without, no matter how much we all wish that we could. Stress hits us from all different angles. Work, school, family, friends … all of these things can cause stress in life, even if it’s unintentional. Since we can’t escape stress, the next best thing is to learn how to manage it. In the summer, that might be both easy to do and even fun at the same time. To get your stress levels under control, take a look at these fun summer activities that can help manage stress and leave you healthier than ever.

Swimming

As long as you’re not afraid of water, swimming can be a great stress reliever. Exercise, in and of itself, is great for lowering stress. Add the effects of calming, cool water, and you have the perfect recipe for feeling calm and collected. Try finding a local pool and taking a quick dip every night. You may find your stress levels lower as your fitness gets higher, which puts swimming in a win-win position.

Outdoor Walks

Summer is the perfect time to get outside. After dinner (when it’s not so hot!), get outside and go for a long walk. Those who spend time in nature tend to have much lower stress levels on a continual basis than those who do not. Along with the time spent outdoors, you’ll also be getting some much needed low impact exercise, which further enhances the stress lowering effects.

Lounging

Let’s not forget that the summer is also the perfect time to do nothing. Lounging by the pool with a book or at home in the backyard are great ways to relax, rest, and let stress fall off in waves. While you may not be able to do this every day, take advantage of the opportunity when you can. The more relaxation you get, the easier it will be to let go of meaningless stress and keep yourself healthy.

Stress can’t really be escaped. It’s a part of life, and we all have to learn to deal with it. But with the right tools and the right activities, it is possible to lower stress levels on a continual basis. Use these fun summer activities to not only enjoy summer but also to keep stress to a minimum all summer long.
